CEMENT MASONS LOCAL # 886 APPRENTICESHIP

The cement mason trade:
Cement masons finish the exposed concrete surfaces of freshly poured floors, walls, sidewalks, foundations, dams, parking garages and lots, runways, roads, and curbs to specified textures or finishes. They level, shape and smooth surfaces using straight edges or power screeds. Most of the work is in industrial and commercial buildings. Cement masons must know the working characteristics of various cement and concrete mixes.
Preparation for the trade:
Good work ethics and attendance
willingness to do physical work
Good math and reading skills
willingness to work outdoors
Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age
Possession of a high school diploma or GED
Possession of a valid driver's license
Program specifics:
Length of program -3 years
probationary period -500 work hours
144 minimum classroom-related training hours per year
starting pay -55% of journeyman wage
A partnership with Owens Community College allowing apprentices to receive college credits toward an Associates degree.
