Cement Masons level, smooth and shape surfaces of freshly poured concrete. This
includes projects such as patios, floors, sidewalks, huge dams, and the
finishing of exposed concrete surfaces such as highways, foundations, walls of
large buildings and airport runways. They are also involved in residential
basement and driveway work and must know the working characteristics of various
cement and concrete mixes.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The work is active and strenuous. Once concrete is poured, it must be worked
before it sets, regardless of the time of day or weather conditions. A Cement
Mason must be willing and able to work outdoors in inclement weather.
INTEREST AND TEMPERMENT
The Cement Mason must be able to work in hot or cold weather and enjoy working
with their hands. The ability to get along with others is important because
Cement Masons frequently work as a team.

DAY IN THE LIFE OF A PLASTERER…
WHAT THEY DO
Plasterers are the building craftsmen who apply plaster to interior walls and
ceilings to form fire-resistant and relatively soundproof surfaces, which may
then be decorated. They also apply stucco to exterior walls (exterior
insulation finish system) and cast ornamental designs in plaster. Plasterers
also apply all levels of drywall finish and ever-expanding variety of Venetian
plastering systems to achieve a marble-like finish to drywall board. Plasterers
also do the fireproofing of steel beams when longer fire ratings are required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Some of the work is done outdoors and depends on weather conditions. While most
plastering jobs are indoors, sometimes plasterers work on high scaffolds.
Plastering requires consideration standing, bending, lifting and reaching
overhead.
INTEREST AND TEMPERMENT
The trade requires good manual skills. Persons should enjoy working with their
hands and accept working outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be
physically capable of performing the work of the trade.
