An operating engineer operates and repairs all types of construction equipment used in building roads, airports, dams, sewers, waterlines, buildings and other structures.

PREPARATION FOR THE TRADE:
Good Math Skills
Good Reading Ability
Blueprint Reading
Mechanical Ability
Welding

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPRENTICESHIP:
Eligible to work in the United states
At least (18) years of age by May 1st of the year of application
Reading and math skills to understand written and oral instruction
Possession of a valid driver's license with the capability of passing the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) test.
Possession of dependable transportation
A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions
The ability to pass a drug screening test
PROGRAM SPECIFICS:

A four-year apprenticeship program
A Probationary period of 450 on-the-job training hours
A minimum of 160 hours of classroom instruction per year
Starting pay is 50% of journeyman wage
