An operating engineer operates and repairs all types of construction equipment used in building roads, airports, dams, sewers, waterlines, buildings and other structures.

PREPARATION FOR THE TRADE:

• Good Math Skills

• Good Reading Ability

• Blueprint Reading

• Mechanical Ability

• Welding

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPRENTICESHIP:

• Eligible to work in the United states

• At least (18) years of age by May 1st of the year of application

• Reading and math skills to understand written and oral instruction

• Possession of a valid driver's license with the capability of passing the Commercial Driver's License  (CDL) test.

• Possession of dependable transportation

• A willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions

• The ability to pass a drug screening test

PROGRAM SPECIFICS:

• A four-year apprenticeship program

• A Probationary period of 450 on-the-job training hours

• A minimum of 160 hours of classroom instruction per year

• Starting pay is 50% of journeyman wage
