The roofing trade:
Roofers waterproof and weatherproof buildings. They apply shingles made from fiberglass, slate, tile, cedar, or composite material such as felt rubber membrane. They also apply built-up rubber, PVC and modern bitumen roofing. They waterproof foundations and plazas as well as line ponds and tanks.
Roofers work outdoors in all kinds of weather and only the most severe weather stops their work. The roofing trade requires a great deal of climbing, kneeling, standing, and walking. A roofer cannot be afraid to work at heights; and also have a good sense of balance and safety.

Good reading ability
General science
General math
Qualifications:
At least 18 years of age
Successfully completed the 10th grade
Have a valid driver's license
30 days working experience
The physical ability to do the work of the trade
Program specifics:
Length of program -4 years
6 months probationary period
144 hours of classroom-related instruction per year, minimum
Starting pay is 50% of journeyman wage
Partnership with Owens Community College that allows apprentices to earn credit toward a two-year associates degree
